The Smiling Spider

Last night in the creeper outside the kitchen window, the Big Mama Spider was fixing her web. Never in the UK have I seen a spider of such Olympian proportions. It made no sense to me that the web could hold her, she looked the size of my fist. After watching her intently, wind toward the center and suddenly spring to her hiding place in the leaves, I was reminded of a few fictional spiders who obviously have left a lasting impression…
